Leadership structures

Develop a Sunday school leadership structure that makes tasks efficient and manageable.

You may already have a solid working leadership structure in place. If not, here are three models to look at as you consider ways to improve your current leadership structure.

Small Sunday school

Coordinator (Pastor, Professional, Volunteer)
recruit teachers, plan curriculum, plan yearly
schedule, select lessons, support teachers

Teachers
prepare and teach weekly lessons

Administrative help
schedule teachers, weekly announcements,
reminder messages, substitutes, etc.

Mid-sized Sunday school

Coordinator (Pastor, Professional, Volunteer)
recruit teachers, plan yearly schedule, select
curriculum, communicate with coordinator(s)

Age Group Coordinators
select and distribute weekly lessons for one age group,
schedule teachers, support teachers in one age group

Teachers
prepare and teach weekly lessons

Administrative help
weekly announcements, substitutes, etc.

Large Sunday school

Coordinator (Pastor, Professional, Volunteer)
recruit teachers, plan yearly schedule, select curriculum,
organize meetings, communicate with coordinators

Age Group Coordinators 
schedule teachers, select and distribute weekly lessons for one age group,
support teachers in one age group, communicate with teachers

Teachers

help out during lesson times

order supplies, make copies, arrange for
