Worship of the lips achieves nothing whatever without worship in the life one leads, since this is worship of the heart (Arcana Coelestia 7884).
When we worship the Lord, the activity of our minds and hearts is within the worship of our lips and bodies. True worship goes beyond worship services and prayer and becomes "worship of the heart" when it affects how we live our lives. This worship leads us to have loving relationships with others. It causes us to reject the false gods that could distract us from worshiping the Lord God Jesus Christ alone.
In the story of the Fiery Furnace we have an example of three men who worshiped their God despite dire consequences. Threatened with death in the fiery furnace unless they bowed down to a golden idol, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego refused. An angel of Jehovah protected these men from the heat of the furnace. They showed an amazing commitment to living their religion.
Although we may not face such dramatic outward challenges to our faith, we can take inspiration and comfort in knowing that the Lord supports all of our efforts to bring our life into a state of worship. For genuine worship is our loving, adoring response to our Heavenly Father, and it is essential to a productive and happy life.
